How does a personal development coach help me improve?

All Nightingale Conant Certified coaches have proficiencies in listening, creating an environment for change, facilitating self-awareness, and are able to work with personal, professional, and perhaps organizational issues about which their clients want focus page= In addition, since our coaching programs are based on our world-leading personal development audio programs, you get the benefit of learning from the masters. Your coach will help you integrate the material from Earl Nightingale, Brian Tracy among others and apply these time-tested concepts to your life.

How much does it cost?

Nightingale Conant offers a range of coaching programs designed to fit every budget. Regardless of whether you want to “try it out” or fully commit to taking your life to the next level, we surely have a coaching program that is right for you.

Can’t I get the same benefits just listening to the audio program?

While the Nightingale Conant audio programs are the best in the world, there is no comparison between listening to an audio program and having a Personal Development Coach. With an audio program, you listen to it. In coaching, the coach listens to you. It is this difference that enables you to experience more dramatic results from coaching than from just listening to a program.

How is coaching delivered?

There are many ways a Personal Development Coach can perform coaching. Today, many coaching relationships exist solely on the Internet. Instant Message chats, e-mails, and video conferencing can all create opportunities for the coach and client to interact. In addition, phone calls and face-to-face meetings often occur. Nightingale Conant’s Personal Development Coaching programs are conducted exclusively by the telephone.

Coaching involves an investment of time by both parties. Expect to spend from four to eight hours each month working with your coach. Appointments are usually conducted once a week, for 30-45 minutes per session, plus additional assignments throughout the week. One-half hour of complimentary time is usually provided initially to get an idea of what coaching is about and to see if you can work together in a long-term relationship. Not all clients are accepted.

When does the coaching relationship end?

Nightingale Conant offers several coaching programs, all of which vary in length. Depending on which program you enroll in, the program may last 2, 4, or 12 weeks. Many clients choose to be coached beyond the 12 week program and enter into a continuation arrangement which is usually in 12 week increments.

How is coaching different from consulting? Therapy? My best friend?

Coaching and consulting are very similar, but they are not the same thing. The main difference between a coach and a consultant is that a consultant comes into the relationship as a diagnostician. In other words, a consultant is hired to “fix” a specific problem. A coach is there to support and guide the client to achieve goals, not to fix problems. Again, the Personal Development Coach believes that the client knows what he or she wants to do and simply needs coaching to get there.

Coaching is not therapy. The coaching relationship is based on the premise that the client is emotionally well balanced and is capable of dealing with emotions and life issues in a healthy way. A client may be in therapy at the same time he or she is receiving coaching, and the two can complement each other, but coaching should not substitute for psychotherapy. Life coaches do not delve into the client’s history or explore deeper issues of “why” the client behaves in a certain way. Life coaches help focus clients on what they want to achieve in life at this time and help them better their lives.

A best friend is wonderful to have. Often, your best friend will play the role of a supportive, loving confidante. While a coach is certainly supportive, we are objective and professional. The relationship exclusively exists to help the client improve his life. As the cliché goes, “Do not try this at home. This is a trained professional.”

Who are the coaches?

There are thousands of people on the Internet and in the phone book calling themselves “Personal Coaches”. There are no regulatory agencies governing Coaches as there are with therapists, physicians, or any other well-established field. The backgrounds of Personal Development Coaches range from PhDs in Psychology, Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling, Organizational Psychologists, Corporate Trainers, Motivational Speakers, all the way to the person with no education or training but who hangs a sign calling himself a Coach. Because there is no required certification for Personal Development Coaches, there are many unqualified individuals giving advice to unsuspecting clients who pay good money for “professional” advice; only to receive advice that is as sophisticated as advice from the next-door neighbor. Because of this, Nightingale Conant has developed an extensive screening process. Nightingale Conant coaches must complete 12 weeks of coaching in any program they coach, as well as participate in ongoing coach training activities. Through this selective process, our clients are assured of the highest level of professionalism.
